The dynamic duo of Dwayne Johnson, aka ‘The Rock’ and Kevin Hart, is cast in Jared Stern’s upcoming film DC’s League of Super-Pets. Johnson plays Krypto, the Man of Steel’s Superdog who has powers similar to its owner, voiced by John Krasinski.

In the newly released trailer by Warner Bros., the opening scene shows Krypto trying to wake a snoring Superman who’s asleep. Later on, they’re shown working as a team, diverting danger away from citizens.

It’s pretty evident from the trailer that Krypto, much like Superman, is far from ordinary. The super dog’s disregard towards other pets is cleverly conveyed in his conversation with a ‘normal dog’ by the roadside.

The trailer wastes no time introducing Lex Luthor (Marc Maron) as the main threat in the film. Soon after, Justice League members like Wonder Woman, Batman, and Cyborg are briefly captured responding to this threat, with Superman shown as captured as well despite his extraordinary strength.

In an animal shelter, PB the pig, Ace the dog, Chip the squirrel, and Merton the turtle witness an explosion that grants them superpowers. Soon after, Krypto enlists their help to rescue Superman using their newly found powers, and they encounter numerous dangers.

Krypto is the self-appointed leader of the League of Super-Pets.

The stereotypical ‘slow’ turtle is quite the opposite, as Merton possesses super speed. PB can magnify his body to an astounding size, chip the squirrel can shoot electric energy from his hands, and Ace is an indestructible dog – he’s even nicknamed the ‘canine shield’ by Krypto.

These four animals’ voiceovers feature Natasha Lyonne, Vanessa Bayer, Diego Luna, and Kevin Hart.

Overall, the animation lacks suspense and is predictable, as is common with such films. However, the humor is good, and the music is commendable. In addition to this, the odd pairing of Krypto and Ace makes for an intriguing storyline.

With the Justice League and Lex Luthor thrown in the mix, this film has the potential to keep viewers glued to their screens, eager to see how the mismatched band of misfits will save the day.

The film is marked for release on May 20th, 2022.
