Free Comic Book Day is fast approaching and with it, comes an exclusive sneak peek of acclaimed Marvel Comics writer Jonathan Hickman and regular artistic partner Valerio Schiti (Inferno)’s latest ongoing series for the company: G.O.D.S. After delivering fan favorite runs on premiere Marvel groups the Fantastic Four, Avengers, and X-Men, Hickman will next turn his attention to the pantheon of Marvel’s cosmic entities.
Announced nearly a year ago, G.O.D.S. promises to upend the very fabric of the Marvel Universe yet again, ushering readers into an entirely new era of comic book storytelling. Aside from Doctor Strange, there do not seem to be any superheroes in sight and that isn’t a first for Hickman, who built his career off non-capes and tights-based creator-owned work The Nightly News and Pax Romana. Even though the concept art of G.O.D.S.’ seemingly original lead protagonist Wyn and a handful of supporting players have been unveiled, much of the comic remains a mystery.

Free Comic Book Day 2023: Avengers / X-Men #1, releasing this Saturday in conjunction with the annual event, will unveil further details for readers eagerly anticipating Hickman and Schiti’s upcoming comic. Marvel has previously relied on Free Comic Book Day issues to advertise their highly anticipated offerings of the year such as Kieron Gillen’s Avengers / X-Men / Eternals Judgment Day crossover event and Donny Cates’ Hulk series.
Hickman will have his hands full within 2023 as he will be spearheading the Ultimate Universe revival miniseries Ultimate Invasion beginning in June alongside longtime Marvel artist Bryan Hitch (The Ultimates). Though an exact release date remains unclear, G.O.D.S. is tentatively scheduled for release in the fall of 2023.
