Q1: When did you first get the idea for The Black Bow?
A1: It’s a funny story actually, I got the idea for The Black Bow while witnessing the 2020 Riots of the aftermath of the George Floyd incident. I witnessed looting and the robbing of a jewelry store and after running to the car where my friend was, I said it would be crazy if a vigilante dropped down out of nowhere and that’s when the inspiration began even though half of my city block was on fire LOL.
Q2: You’re an artist and a writer. How did that happen? Which skill did you start building first?
A2: Well I’ve always liked to draw since I was young so I’ve been drawing and doing artwork long before I started writing stories. This is my first full-length project so I hope you all enjoy.
Q3: Do you naturally consider yourself more of a writer or artist? Many comic creators only possess one of these skills.
A3: I would naturally call myself an artist because I might not be a writer first-hand but my artistic mind and creativity form the stories for me so writing is just a matter of putting the pieces in my head together and physically typing or translating them onto a page.
Q4: How does it feel to be one of the few Black comic artists and writers in the industry? Does the business need more diversity?
A4: It feels good, I have noticed a lot of creators that forged this path before me and it feels good to be on this journey with them, bringing never-before-seen content and stories to the world while championing people of color. Stuff like this wasn’t around when I was a kid, I wish it was.
Q5: What is your ultimate goal and vision for Black Bow?
A5: my ultimate goal is for him to become a well-known hero amongst the legends that we know today; Batman, Superman, Black Panther, Green Arrow, and even amongst the Anime world with Dragonball and the likes of Goku, One Piece’s Luffy, and ultimately an animated series,live-action series, then a feature film.
Q6: After observing some of the content you created for the character I noticed that he was in panels that involved protesting. Is social activism important to the character’s backstory?
A6: Yes I guess you can consider him a social justice warrior but when you get deep into the story you find out that he’s a hero not only for the oppressed and downtrodden but for everyone.
Q7: Describe The Black Bow in a way that captures his entire identity.
A7: Black Bow is an individual who has witnessed the oppression of his people while growing up with the struggles of the everyday young Black man in America. It has made him question the way the world is and gave him a very inquisitive and studious mind. He is a young man of great intellect. Causing him to graduate high school and go to college early and reaching the top of his college class in Archaeology. So without giving too much away, he is a man who sees the truth, the arrow has always been a symbol for justice and truth. That’s his identity and what he stands for.
Q8: Who is your favorite comic writer? Favorite comic artist?
A8: I would have to say Manuel Godoy author of Black Sands The Seven Kingdoms
