Synopsis:
This episode kicks off with an ambush on Mando and The child. The Mandalorian easily defeats the attackers and comically uses his jetpack to drop one of them out of the sky (yea, he can autopilot his jetpack). The duo travel to a cantina where they meet Peli Motto, the woman that previously repaired the Razor Crest. Motto is gambling with a giant ant-creature that claims he has a lead on other Mandalorians.
The lead takes Mando and The child in search of the planet Trask along with a passenger that claims her husband has seen Mandalorians. The passenger, a Frog-creature is transporting her eggs to be hatched on Trask.
The Razor Crest is intercepted by The New Republic and Mando crash-lands on a planet to avoid being inspected. The ship is severely damaged by the landing. Mando finds The Child eating some of the eggs after the landing. Mando and The Child realize the Frog-creature has disappeared as they are making repairs to the ship.
They follow the Frog-creature inside a cave where it has taken its eggs to warm. Inside the cave, they are attacked by giant spider-creatures. They make it to the Razorcrest only to be attacked by a colossal spider. The New Republic comes to the rescue and destroys the spider with their X-wings.
The New Republic pilots inform Mando that he has a warrant out for his arrest. Since they have a record of his good deeds as well they let him go on the condition that he adds a transmitter to the Razorcrest so The New Republic can identify his ship in the future.
Review
Pros
*The opening scene is classic Mando.
*The scenes where Baby Yoda eats the eggs are hilarious.
*The spiders looked cool.
Cons
* Clearly a side-quest.
*Some of the creatures seemed unimaginative (frogs, spiders).
*Short (but with reason?)
*Very strange how Baby Yoda eating the frog species is so casual.
Score: 6/10 Frog Eggs
As a standalone episode, this episode doesn’t offer much other than the occasional comedic relief. Personally, I can’t get over the Frog and Spider species, they seem very plain and unimaginative compared to many other aliens featured in Star Wars. I can understand why this episode was part of Mando’s journey, it just wasn’t the most interesting.
