Marvel Entertainment released its Disney + WandaVision trailer on YouTube today. The trailer sees Wanda The Scarlet Witch and Vision live life in a 1950s family sit-com setting. The couple does household chores. They host dinner. They even dress the part of a typical husband and wife during the age of black and white television. Wanda, as a housewife, and Vision in the attire of a working-class husband. Sinister undertones lay beneath the facade of a stereotypical happy couple.
When the guests of the power couple begin to ask questions reality starts to get distorted. Vision not only has a different face than actor Paul Bettany, but he is also dead. He was killed twice during the Infinity Saga. Once by the love of his life Scarlet Witch, to prevent Thanos from getting the Mind Stone. Vision was killed the second time when Thanos uses the Time Stone to reverse time. He goes back in time to stop Wanda’s heroic sacrifice and rip the Mind Stone from Vision’s head.
Despite his death during the Infinity Saga, Vision is somehow seemingly alive and with Wanda. To fans that are unfamiliar with Scarlet Witch and her abilities, this may seem like a hallucination. They may appear as unwilling participants in this bizarre world. Wanda Maximoff The Scarlet Witch is easily one of the most powerful mutants in the entire Marvel Comic universe. The odd reality that the trailer is set in could possibly be a reality of her own creation.
Wanda is a wielder of Chaos Magic and is known to have reality-warping abilities. She states ” I want us to fit in” before using magic to change Vision into a human before they host their dinner. This act proves that Wanda is able to manipulate the reality she and Vision are living in. One of their guests, Mrs. Heart is none other than Debra Jo Rupp, the actress who played Kitty Forman in popular 90’s sit-com That 70’s Show. It is apparent that Wanda hopes she and Vision can become her idea of the stereotypical American family. She wants them to be her vision of the ideal old-fashioned normal couple. The fact of the matter is, they are anything but normal.
Mrs. Heart casually asks them 3 questions that neither of them can answer. Where did they move from? How long have they been married? Why don’t they have children? Cue the reality distortion. In the MCU Wanda and her brother Pietro Maximoff are originally from Sokovia. Sokovia has been decimated following the acts of Age of Ultron and was also Pietro’s final resting place. Vision was created by Tony Stark in the MCU so he technically is not “from” a location. He was originally the A.I. Jarvis.
The couple was never married because Vision died. Even if he were alive it would be impossible for the couple to have children because Vision is an android, not a human. Fortunately for fans and viewers, Wanda specializes in the impossible. Anything can happen thanks to her unparalleled abilities. Reality is hers to shape.
