*BEWARE, SPOILERS FOR KING IN BLACK #2
Venom has flatlined in Marvel Comics. Looks like this time Eddie Brock has finally kicked the bucket. Knull’s arrival in King in Black has signaled the end for many of Marvel’s heroes. Venom was supposed to be Earth’s savior in this conflict against The God of Symbiotes but he was actually one of the first heroes to be killed.
As a symbiote host, Eddie Brock has a unique connection with Knull. He is also responsible for freeing him from the planet of the symbiotes because he chose to save his son instead of stop carnage. Iron Man believed that Venom would be the hero Earth needed but Eddie quickly fell short when he tried to tango with the lord of the abyss. As soon as he approached Knull, The God of Symbiotes easily stripped Venom of his symbiote and disposed of him like trash.
Eddie was dropped from high above the ground and when he landed he destroyed most of his bones and organs. His last words before losing consciousness were a plea to Spider-Man to take care of his son Dylan. In a strange turn of events, Spider-Man has become the god-father of Eddie Brock’s son. Spider-Man fashioned a harness from his webbing and whisked Eddie’s near-lifeless body away to get help.
The heroes could not help Eddie even with the combined genius of Mr. Fantastic and Iron Man. The only solution they could come up with was to find a symbiote to attach to Eddie so he could heal. Iron Man successfully obtained a symbiote but when they tried to attach the symbiote it attacked Eddie’s body. Dylan was able to destroy the symbiote but everyone in the room made two shocking discoveries: 1.Dylan may be the key to stopping Knull 2. Eddie Brock is dead.
Eddie Brock has narrowly avoided death MANY times in Marvel Comics but this death seems pretty cut and dry. He briefly survived a ridiculous fall and died after the symbiote attack. Maybe he will be revived by some clever writing and a little help from his favorite partner but for now, Venom is down for the count.
